Why Does Lens Selection Matter?

There are many factors that determine how you will see through your glasses. Which is why your glasses should be customized to you, your needs, and your lifestyle. Selecting your glasses is a two-step process once you select your frame.

Step 1 is selecting your base lens and Step 2 is selecting the options that are applied to your base lens.

When you come to one of our Optical Shops, our Optical team will devote themselves to helping you make the best selections for you. They love helping patients understand these options and leaving with the perfect pair of glasses that suit all their needs!

Step 1: Base Lens Options

Single Vision:

Single vision lenses are a type of lens that only correct vision for a single distance. These lenses are designed to correct astigmatism, nearsightedness, or farsightedness. They are crafted to correct one prescription, which is evenly distributed over the entire surface of the lens.

Eyezen™ Enhanced:

Eyezen™ is a category of cutting-edge lenses designed to relax and help protect eyes from screens. These lenses adapt visual correction to the viewing distances of each digital device including very close vision and a light filtering technology which helps protect the eyes from harmful blue-violet light emitted by digital screens. Eyezen™ lenses also reduce eyestrain improve the readability of small fonts, diminish glare, improve contrast, and help prevent premature ageing of wearers’ eyes.

Varilux® Progressive:

Single vision lenses are a type of lens that only correct vision for a single distance. These lenses are designed to correct astigmatism, nearsightedness, or farsightedness. They are crafted to correct one prescription, which is evenly distributed over the entire surface of the lens.

Step 2: Add-On Lens Options

Anti-Glare:

Everyone can benefit from having the anti-glare treatment added to their lenses! Our Crizal Anti-Glare line gives you the clearest vision possible with protection against glare, scratches, smudges, water, dust, and even UV rays.

Transition:

Transition lenses are engineered to darken in the sun and clear when indoors. Having transition lenses is like having a pair of glasses and sunglasses in one frame. Many people enjoy the convenience of these lenses. We offer a standard transition lens as well as the Transitions® XTRActive® line, which provide a darker lens in the sun and a faster transition to indoor use, plus a blue light filter.

Polarized:

Polarized lenses not only reduce glare, but they also make images appear sharper and clearer, increasing visual clarity and comfort. They also protect your eyes from harmful UV Rays. According to the AAO, people who use polarized sunglasses often say they are less tired than usual after hours of battling sun glare. But polarized sunglasses can be a good choice for most everyday situations, as well.

Care and Cleaning

Caring for your eyeglasses is important for many reasons. The most obvious reason is to make sure you can see properly! But cleaning your glasses is also important in order to keep them free from bacteria and other harmful particles that could potentially find their way into your eyes. Eek!

Below are some tips for taking care of your eyeglasses and lenses.

  • Clean your lenses every day with soft or microfiber cloths
